October 2017 saw the launch of the sixth phase of the project with 12 climate partnerships. This is the first phase of the project that has involved two partner regions simultaneously – Latin America and Africa. Furthermore, for the first time several German municipalities are involved that have not previously had a partnership with a municipality in either of the regions concerned. The Latin American partner municipalities come from Ecuador, Nicaragua and Peru. The African partner municipalities come from Burkina Faso, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa and Zimbabwe. The official kick-off for this phase of the project, at which the municipalities began designing the joint programmes of action, comprised an international workshop held in early October 2017.
