The World Urban Forum was established by the United Nations in 2001 to discuss the impact of accelerating urbanization on cities and rural areas, on business and politics, and to share innovative and creative solutions for cities worldwide. The first Forum took place in 2002 in Nairobi, Kenya, and has since been held every two years.
With its twelfth edition, the WUF is returning to the African continent. The focus of WUF12 will be the dialogue on the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. The conference will highlight innovative local approaches and initiatives that aim to improve the well-being of people living in cities, but also contribute to overcoming the huge ongoing challenges. Several thousands of participants from all over the world are expected to attend the World Urban Forum in Cairo – including representatives of national, regional and local governments, academics, urban experts and activists from non-governmental organizations and civil society.
