2nd Hands on Public Buildings. Reuse of modernist buildings.

In September 2024, a Connective Cities dialog event in cooperation with the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing was dedicated to the paradigm shift reuse of buildings. Around 30 municipal experts from Germany, Kenya, Montenegro, the Palestinian Territories, Zambia and Ukraine exchanged ideas on solutions and challenges for the sustainable reuse of modernist buildings and worked together on individual project ideas. To further the exchange, two virtual meetings on “feasibility study” and “interim use” took place online. Later, international participants had the chance to join GIZ insight sessions on financing opportunities.

On the one hand, the objective of the Summary and Outlook Event on September 22, 2025 is to open the stage for the participants of the learning process to present the advances of their projects. On the other hand, we would like to advertise the reuse of public buildings further and open the circle of participants.
