Municipal partnerships driving progress in waste management

Bonn/Giessen, 28 July 2026. What if established producers of branded goods were required to take responsibility for their waste? Worldwide, there is a growing focus on not just disposing of waste, but actually preventing it, reusing it and recycling it more effectively. Local government partnerships – for example, between Furth and Karagwe in Tanzania and between the district of Giessen and Mubende in Uganda – are showing how districts, cities and municipalities can work together to develop solutions.

Learning from each other, acting together: partnerships for future-proof municipalities

Bonn, 14 January 2026. Despite the vast distance between them, German and Latin American municipalities are working towards a shared vision: livable, sustainable cities. Their experiences show how mutual exchange helps them move forward. Discussions on current issues, but also on challenges in cooperation, were the focus of the 2024 Partnership Conference for German and Latin American Municipalities in Cologne. One year later, we followed up.
