Around 90 active municipal partnerships currently connect Latin American municipalities from 13 countries with partner municipalities in Germany. The topics are diverse: climate protection and climate change adaptation, biodiversity and environmental education, water and wastewater management, flood protection, waste management, renewable energies, education, gender equity, and sustainable urban development.
In particular, the protection of the climate, biodiversity, and natural resources is in the common interest of all partner municipalities and opens up many opportunities for successful partnership-based cooperation. Latin America plays a special role in this regard, as many of the most biodiverse regions on Earth are located in Central and South America.
The exchange of knowledge and experience benefits both sides of the partnership: the approaches and solutions developed jointly can provide valuable incentives for municipal action in both Germany and Latin America.
