German municipalities are linked to municipalities in the Global South through numerous themes. We aim to promote these common interests – to benefit both the individual municipalities involved and sustainable global development.
This is why the Service Agency project 'Municipal Climate Partnerships' focuses on expert intermunicipal cooperation in the field of climate change mitigation and adaptation. To ensure that the project is sustainable, the themes are systematically integrated into the existing work of the respective municipal partnerships.
The same thing applies to the themes associated with responsive local governance. This term refers to good local governance that is transparent, service-oriented and participatory. Through this project too, the Service Agency aims to support expert exchange at the global level. Sustainability is a matter of survival – something that municipal actors have known for a long time. To also promote sustainable development through municipal partnerships, the Service Agency offers various instruments for realising approaches and measures through its 'Municipal Partnerships for Sustainability' project.
Strengthening sustainable development is also the aim of Connective Cities – the international community of practice for sustainable urban development. This community of practice addresses the particular challenges faced by cities around the world, which are often the same. The expert dialogue supported by Connective Cities disseminates innovative ideas for solving urban problems, so that these can then be implemented globally in a joint learning process.
