Since decades, players of municipal partnerships make it just right: You build links, you share knowledge and you move the world closer together. In this spirit of celebrating exchange, we heartily invite you to the third Conference of Municipal Partnerships with Asia from the 1st to 3rd march 2021. This event is organized in close cooperation with the City of Leipzig.

This year the conference will be virtual and in English only. No need to speak perfectly! We will keep the event language as simple as possible for everybody.

The conference will be virtual via "webex" and in English only. Your language skills do not have to be perfect at all, most participants don´t have English as their mother tongue, too.

What awaits you?

Day 1

You will get to know the network! In an inspiring keynote Sanam Amin, activist, researcher and global citizen from Thailand, will reflect on partnerships for development and the meaningful impact of the daily work of municipalities in improving lives for our communities. Especially in these pandemic days. In breakout sessions, you will exchange with colleagues about the topics of the talk.

Day 2

Storytelling-Time! You will listen to stories of municipal colleagues that are committed to partnership-projects with Germany and Asia. They will tell a story of change, breakthrough or challenge of a detail in their municipal development cooperation. The Storytelling will help you to create new ways for your partnership and exchange with experienced colleagues. Their inspiring inputs will not come as classic presentation, be excited!

Day 3

Practitioners tell their stories! You will join a personal talk between Ms. Flosel Almirante and Ms. Sonja Fielenbach, two employees of the Philippine-German partnership between Dumangas and Herdecke. We will talk about how their partnership diversified to become so very dedicated and active and how they engage in global and local responsibility. Finally yet importantly, you will get new information on how to fund your partnership and specific activities. NAKOPA-Partnerships will have an own platform for exchange on their projects.

Who is the conference for?

We cordially invite stakeholders of municipal partnerships between German municipalities and municipalities in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. Partnerships with China are not part of this specific program. The country selection is based on the DAC-List of the OECD.
