The Programme to Support Municipal Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Projects (FKKP)

Financial support for municipal climate partnerships

Since 2011 the Programme to Support Municipal Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Projects (FKKP) has been offering German municipalities an opportunity to apply for financial support for development-oriented partnership projects. Applicants must be participating in the 'Climate Partnerships' project.

As in previous years, in 2018 the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) provided funding for German municipalities to step up their engagement at the interface between climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the protection of forests, marine and coastal regions, and biodiversity. The funding was provided through the BMZ Facility for ‘Reducing emissions, adapting to climate change and preserving biodiversity’. The Facility is designed for German municipalities that possess experience with environmentally-oriented development cooperation, and are able to implement measures over several years.

Advice

The German municipality submitting the application is welcome to ring the Service Agency Communities in One World for advice over the telephone. If you are interested, we recommend that you make use of the advice we offer early on.

Please note that projects should be designed in order to serve needs. You should also plan your project together with your partner municipality as equals.
