Not just the staff of Padang’s Environmental Agency joined the interactive tour of Hildesheim’s compost plant, which its director Detlef Kramer conducted in person on 10 December 2021. In all, more than 40 participants from environmental authorities and government institutions across the whole of Indonesia took part. A multimedia expert on site saw to it that images and sound were transmitted live to Indonesia while two interpreters enabled the participants to converse with Mr Kramer directly during the tour. And plenty of questions were asked: about fee charging, the composting process and how to market the compost.
Buoyed by the successful tour of the composting plant, another event followed on a few days later. Dr Erwin Voss, director of the municipal wastewater utility Stadtentwässerung Hildesheim (SEHi), took a similar group of Indonesian professionals on a virtual tour of Hildesheim’s sewage works, sharing the knowledge he has acquired over many years in the field of wastewater disposal and treatment. In particular, participants from Padang’s municipal planning office were able to gain key insights that will benefit the river clean-up project in future.
The verdict on the two events: All participants were excited about the technical side of things and the professional gains the event afforded them. This know-how transfer is an important milestone on the road to achieving the joint objectives of the partnership between Hildesheim and Padang.
